Need seen for human resource person

CELINA – As most big companies have a human resources person, so too should a city boasting a $50 million budget, city councilman Jeff Larmore argued this week.
Larmore led the charge at a personal and finance committee meeting at which city officials revisited a long-dormant discussion of adding a human resources position to the city’s administration. They’ll reconvene for another round of talks at 6 p.m. Monday.

General Motors seeks new HR chief at a time when the company is in a ‘war for talent’

General Motors is in the market for someone to lead its global human resources office.

Jose Tomas, who was with the Detroit automaker for eight months, told the Free Press on Monday he is planning to pursue “a new business venture” but did not disclose what that will entail. His last day was Wednesday.

GM spokesman Pat Morrissey said it’s not clear how long it will take the company to fill Tomas’ position. In finding Tomas’ replacement, GM will need to look for someone who can manage an increasingly crucial part of company operations, according to Michelle Krebs, executive analyst for Autotrader.

Landrum businessman named HR Professional of the Year

A Landrum business owner was named HR Professional of the Year by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.

Bob Lowe, owner and consultant at People Make the Difference, received the award Thursday during the chamber’s annual human resources conference in Isle of Palms, according to a statement from the chamber.

US Foods Names New Chief Human Resources Officer
